Joseph (Joe) S. Durko, brings over 20 years of professional finance, accounting and business advisory experience to Zanicorn. Most recently, Joe served as VP Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer of a > $300 million publicly-traded specialty semiconductor manufacturer, with operations in North American, Western and Eastern Europe and throughout Asia. He has extensive corporate finance and accounting background with leading multinational high tech engineering and manufacturing firms, and also has direct experience in the pharmaceutical and consumer products industries.
In each of his corporate roles, Joe has served as the lead finance executive responsible for both internal and external financial reporting, and global and local systems of internal control, with extensive internal audit and Sarbanes-Oxley experience and notable accomplishments in this area. He has a reputation for driving compliance costs down while achieving a high level of effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls. Joe is well versed internationally, and has served in a directorial capacity with several operating subsidiaries in Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Japan. He has had direct reports in many foreign countries throughout his career, and is intimately familiar with statutory accounting requirements in those foreign jurisdictions as well. Joe is also fluent in International Accounting Standards, and serves as a member of Financial Executives International‘s Corporate Roundtable on International Financial Reporting.
In addition, Joe has been a leader in emerging growth businesses, with extensive M&A transactional and business integration experience. He has been directly involved in two initial public offerings and in multiple financial restructurings and recapitalizations. Joe has built financial accounting teams from the ground up for several emerging businesses, and also has impressive treasury and international tax experience (both compliance and tax planning). Most recently, Joe supported an international tax planning effort involving multiple legal reorganizations, as well as the establishment of an operational support center (procurement and order fulfillment) in Hong Kong.
In addition to his technical background and corporate-level accomplishments, Joe’s extensive experience as an Operational Controller enables him to support our client’s strategic business goals and promote operational excellence on a very practical level as demonstrated by his career commitment to middle market, emerging growth companies and to those larger companies that are making substantial investments in affiliate businesses based upon their strategic goals. He has enjoyed strong relationships with his operational counterparts, and has a reputation for being a valued business partner as well as a reliable technical advisor, one who can explain technical accounting matters within the context of the business and in full support of it. He also has played a leadership role in many ERP initiatives, having spearheaded several systems implementations and enhancements, with corresponding business process improvement initiatives.
A Certified Public Accountant since 1990, Joe began his career in public accounting with BDO Seidman and later in the middle market practice group of PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York.
Prior to joining Zanicorn, Joe also recently served as a consulting services manager with a well-regarded boutique corporate restructuring and advisory services firm, specializing in the automotive industry, at a time when many first and second tier suppliers were filing for bankruptcy protection. Joe currently serves as Treasurer and Board of Advisors member of a charitable trust established to support senior leaders dedicated to achievement, while emphasizing the highest standards of moral and ethical business practice.
